The Annual General Meeting Sri Lanka Light Infantry Association – 2024
Affiliated to Sri Lanka Army ‘Light Infantry Association’ pioneering as the oldest military retirees
association, conducts Annual General Meeting on 30th Mar 2024 for the 71st consecutive
occasion in the history. The organization is constituted with officers and other rank veterans of
different eras in the past history who bear membership counting 1386 as at today. The annual
reunion is a yearning moment for all active members who participate enthusiastically from all
most all the corners of the country. Interestingly Sri Lanka Army in a history of 76 years has
produced six commanders legacy to SLLI cherishing as the oldest regiment in the Army. This is
very significant and a pride where two living Commanders advocates the organization being
members and General (Retd) Daya Rathnayake WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc is the
chairperson of the organization.
The SLLI Association is very active conducting variety of events setting classy and all the
activities conducted are to uplift welfare of its members and their families. Most significantly
one such mega event conducted for the first time in the eight decades of past history by the
organization is ‘Pabalamela 2023’ an iconic musical extravaganza conducted in Hikkaduwa
under the guidance and leadership of incumbent president. The challenging effort helped
accumulating highest ever lump sum in a single endeavor of which assistance extended by the
serving members counting officers and other ranks in the regiment is praiseworthy with
especial commendation to Colonel of the Regiment and the Commandant. Undoubtedly for
cheer of all its members this would open avenue for further welfare measures in the future.
The AGM is a day’s program where members after a comprehensive and enthusiastic meeting
for the first time in history would appreciate selected exemplary characters after evasive
screening of their deeds whilst living affiliated to civil society since retirement. In that
exemplary nature of deeds for betterment of society is vetted in selection among many such
veteran characters in the organization. Further to that living members who are ‘nonagenarians’
are also would be honored as they have been lucky to live long amongst us cherishing
enormous experience serving and contributing for the peace and harmony of the country.
Appreciating and honoring first segment of veterans ‘Sewadana Abhinandaneeya Sannas Patra’ is
conferred whilst a ‘laurel plaque’ is designed for over 90 years long living blessed veterans.
Having completed the AGM members would have an opportunity to wine and dine associating
each other recollecting all past memories for cheer and enchantment of cotemporaries of
different eras served together in the past. All the cherishing moments at the session to be
lasted till afternoon hours would undoubtedly carry narratives of bravery, humor and critical
but mind soothing moments of each one’s military career. The images of past year 2023 are
